About

Sibylle Gethin (b. [1988], Bucharest, Romania) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the duality of cultural identity, shaped by her bicultural upbringing between Romania and the United States. Her practice is a dialogue between the familiar and the fantastical, where the mundane is infused with dreamlike distortions, reflecting the fluid nature of memory, belonging, and perception.

Deeply influenced by the surrealist visions of Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, and Hieronymus Bosch, she weaves elements of the uncanny into her compositions, layering everyday imagery with symbolic, often absurd narratives. Simultaneously, her work embraces the bold aesthetics and irony of pop culture, creating a space where classical surrealism collides with contemporary visual language. This interplay results in pieces that challenge conventional reality, inviting viewers to find meaning in the tension between what is seen and what is imagined.

Her work has been exhibited in Boise, Idaho, Washington DC, and Florence, Italy, and she continues to explore the intersection of personal history, cultural duality, and the surreal. She currently lives and works in Boise, Idaho.
